Whether we realize it or not, miracles happen around us every day. Most of us have grown calloused even to the idea of it because of how many times someone has called us over to look at something that was impressive, but not quite miraculous.

My daughter likes to use the term when she’s really happy with how an art project turned out. It’s not just beautiful, it’s a miracle.

You get my drift.

In that place, it’s easy to become cynical and believe nothing is miraculous. Everything can be explained, coincidental, or imagined. Nothing stirs awe in us anymore. 

I used to be that way and God had to soften my heart and teach me to see miracles again. It was like waking up to realize that life is much bigger and more beautiful than I'd allowed myself to believe.

A miracle is anything we can’t explain through scientific facts or reason.

The human body falls into this category. For everything we do know about how it functions, there continue to be mysteries that baffle the most educated minds on the planet.

The truth is that God created the world, sustains it, and governs it miraculously. Countless lives have given themselves to the study of it throughout the course of time and yet we don’t understand how all of it works.

He’s the God of miracles.

His ways are unsearchable. His knowledge far beyond ours. His power greater than what we can comprehend. 

As you’re praying and believing God for a miracle- whether it be in your body, your mind, your relationships, your circumstances, or your heart- you can be confident that He still performs miracles today.

In everything God does, there’s a part we play in it. And I want to help you understand how to step into your role.

 

Here are five things that will help you position yourself for God to do a miracle:

 

1. Change your perspective

In order to see something new, you need to change the vantage point you’re looking from. You won’t go looking for what you don’t believe is possible.

What does the Bible have to say about what you’re facing?

Who do you know who’s faced something similar and experienced victory in that area?

What books speak to the issues you’re up against?

When Moses was trying to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, their willingness to even attempt going up against their enemies was determined by who they were listening to.

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43:19

 

2. Pray specific verses

The Bible is described as a weapon in our hands. Jesus used it this way when He resisted Satan in the wilderness. Over and over again, He quoted the Scriptures to combat the enemy’s strategies to sabotage what God was doing.

When you have nothing you're investing in prayer, it becomes nothing more than wishful thinking. But when you surrender your heart and your plans, pick up your sword and approach the throne of grace with boldness, the battle is on.

Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17

 

3. Persevere

Unless it’s clear that God is shutting a door, don’t presume His answer is no just because the miracle didn’t happen immediately. God’s more interested in having a genuine relationship with you then He is in being your sugar daddy. As you ask and then ask again and then ask once more, you’re developing a trust that He hears you and wants to move on your behalf.

The reason I keep boldly asking God to heal people is not because He does it every time I ask, but because I’m convinced He is a Healer. It's who He is and healing is what He does.

It's like me being a mom. My kids never assume they shouldn't ask me to do something for them because I said no two seconds ago. They know I love them and will do anything for them, so they just keep on asking until they find what I'll say yes to.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7

 

4. Be willing to step out in faith

You might need to get out of the boat, dip in the river seven times, or pick up your bed and walk in order to play your part in God’s miracle. I can’t tell you what action it might be but it’s probably going to make your heart race, maybe make your palms sweaty, and cause you to muster up every ounce of courage inside of you.

What if you’re wrong? I don’t know. I ask that question a lot, too. 

All I know is God honors faith and I’d rather trip over myself trusting Him than shrink back in unbelief.

It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6

 

5. Look for evidence

While the Bible records a lot of crazy acts of faith, it also reveals a God who leads us forward one step at a time. He’s not sending you off on some crazy treasure hunt, He’s taking your hand and showing you the way. Jesus was right there when Peter stepped out of the boat, got distracted and began sinking. His hand immediately pulled Peter back up again.

God doesn’t mind our questions, our fears, even our doubts, when we bring them to Him instead of using them against Him. When I think God is asking me to do something bold, my prayer is constantly, "Confirm it to me, Lord, over and over again. I’ll do whatever You say, just make it clear where You’re leading me.”

Your own ears will hear Him. Right behind you, a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. Isaiah 30:21
